OUR LITTLE ABC FOR ACTIVATED CARBON

IODINE NUMBER

This value indicates, how much iodine can be adsorbed at a gram of activated carbon. The higher the value the better the quality of the activated carbon.

MACRO PORES

The higher the concentration of macro pores in the activated carbon, the better the material transfer to the inside of the activated carbon, because all molecules, which are to be adsorbed, must pass these pores. Therefore, this value must be as large as possible.

MICRO PORES

(See iodine number). This value must also be as high as possible, since it is a measure for how much the activated carbon can adsorb.

MOLASSE / MELASSE

This value indicates, how many activated carbon is needed in order to deodorize a melasses solution. Since melasse is like trihalogeneous-methane-forming organic compounds, which are arising in the pool water, of large molecular size, this value is very important. This number must be as low as possible in order to use less activated carbon.

PARTIKELGRÖßE D90

This value indicates, that 90 % of all particles are smaller than this value. The D90 of ADSORBA®-N is 70 μm and of ADSORBA®-A 98 μm. ADSORBA®-N for sand filter is a finer grain otherwise the service live of the sand filter would be strongly reduced. Rougher activated carbon would quickly block the surface of the sand filter. ADSORBA®-A for precoat filters is rougher, because the ashored filter cake must have a high permeability in order to make a long service live possible

PERMEATBILITY

The permeability or water permeability is determined in Darcy and must be as large as possible so that as little resistance as possible is given to the water being filtered

REDUCTION OF PEROXIDE

The most important criterion for your choice of catalytic activated carbon is the dismantling of hydrogen peroxide. By a special very complex process, the already very good catalytic characteristics of our classical powder activated carbons ADSORBA®-N and ADSORBA®-A continue to be optimized. The catalytic achievement of ADSORBA®-SuperKat is higher up to 30 % compared to our standard carbons
